Fancy Farm Girl Has Been Framed!

But in a good way.

Fancy Farm Girl is Block 9 of Hazel’s Diary Quilt, the sampler quilt project I embarked on a year ago. Here’s that Fancy Farm Girl on point, as she will be in the finished quilt, sporting her red scalloped frame:

She joins four other blocks that have been pieced and framed:

Progress has been slow on the appliquéd frames. I discovered I can’t work on my needleturn appliqué in the evening while watching television because the light isn’t great. (How on earth did previous generations of quilters do such beautiful work by candlelight?) I’m also hampered by a certain calico cat demanding lap time (and who am I to deny her?).

Four additional pieced blocks are awaiting their frames. One of the nine blocks will go in the center of the quilt as part of a medallion. I’ll pick the block for the center after all of them have been framed. Of the five so far, Fancy Farm Girl is the leading candidate. Do you have a favorite?

Looks great! I don’t know how you are ever going to choose just one for the medallion. Have fun!

Those red scalloped frames really add so much to each block! If I had to choose, I would use the one on the far right in your photo as the center. The green leaves give it a sense of motion, as if all the rest of the quilt were swirling around it.

Yes, I have a favorite! All of them!

This is so beautiful! And I agree, any of these blocks is a great choice. But I would consider the one on the right corner of the four in this post because it sets up a swirl.

This quilt will be very special!

    Hi Dawn,

Peggy and I sprang for new lights at the quilt show last fall. From Montavilla, a combination led light with magnifier. Not cheap. Convertible from floor lamp to desk lamp.
Not what you would say an asset to home decor, but it has really been helpful.

Those red frames are adorable. Any of them would make a great center, but I think my favorite is the farm girl one also.

I have to say that Fancy Farm Girl would be my favorite for center. So far anyway! But the other ladies have a point regarding the motion created by the swirl of the leaves in the block on the right. Tough choice my friend!!

The bottom one in the group of four would be my favorite for center. The combination of the yellow and black makes it a strong candidate 🙂
