Throwback Thursday: Dutch Treat (2017)

It’s Week 8 of Throwback Thursday. Over the last seven weeks I’ve shown you seven quilts, one for each year between 2010 and 2016. Today’s quilt is my first red and white quilt (though not my last, as you know from my most recent post). Here, representing Week 8, is Dutch Treat:

Dutch Treat, 48″ x 60″ (2017)

Made from the pattern A Mid-Winter’s Night by Cottage Rose, the quilt features a mix of reds and two light background fabrics, all from my stash. The quilting was done by longarm quilter Debbie Scroggy.

Dutch Treat gets its name from the windmill shaped blocks:

Eight weeks and eight quilts down, two to go! I hope you’ll join me next week for 2018’s pick.

Oh I do love this one. When I first saw it, I didn’t see the concentric circles in the design at first, but when I finally saw them, they became my favorite element. Timeless, those red and white colors, and so lovely!

    Love it!

    Hello my friend,
I am really enjoying this trip down memory lane. Red and white quilts are so special and yours is stunning. Thank you for sharing your quilts.

That has always been one of my favorite quilts…and I have a special love for red and white quilts. It is truly beautiful!

Always a love a good red and white quilt! I have an unrelated question I am hoping you can help with. My cousin and I are trying to track down a pattern and I noticed you have made it! You call it Toile Story and it is a stunner. Original pattern called Checkerboard Square by Alex Anderson. I have tried her with no response and when I type in the name it doesn’t come up. Can you tell me where to find this pattern? Is it perhaps in a book or magazine? Desperately trying to track it down. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Hello, Sheri-Lee. The directions for Checkerboard Square appeared in a quilt magazine in 2008 that is no longer in publication. I’ve written you a direct message about this. — Dawn
