Oven Mitt Giveaway!

That’s right, friends. I’m giving away a set of oven mitts to three lucky winners. Will you be one of them?

I made these oven mitts in preparation for writing a tutorial. The shape of the mitts is the same on all of them — it’s the binding I’ve been tinkering with. I’ve been trying different widths and finishing techniques. Now that I’m finally satisfied, I can get to the tutorial — but now I have to make one more set of mitts to photograph for the tutorial!

The mitts you see above were made of four layers:
⦁ the outer fabric is 100% cotton
⦁ the second layer is 100% cotton batting
⦁ the third layer is Insul-bright, an insulated lining material specifically made for hot pads and oven mitts
⦁ the fourth layer (the inside of the mitt) is cotton with an aluminized coating, commonly used to cover ironing boards. This fabric is not essential but I had some on hand and decided to use it because one of my old oven mitts happened to be lined with it.

To be entered in the giveaway, all you have to do is write a comment at the bottom of this post responding to the question, “What is your favorite kind of food?” If you wish, name a dish you especially like in your favored cuisine. How simple is that? No need for you to subscribe to my blog or follow me on Instagram (though I would be delighted if you chose to do either).

One entry per person. I will mail anywhere in the world so international readers are welcome to enter.

Family members are invited to leave comments but are not eligible to win. (Don’t feel too sorry for them; all they have to do is let me know they want a set and they’ll get one!)

The giveaway will remain open through Friday, January 29. On Saturday, January 30, I’ll use a random number generator to pick three winners. Winner #1 gets the red mitts on the left with the flowers; winner #2 gets the set in the middle with the cherries; and winner #3 gets the set on the right with the poodles.

But wait — there’s more! It it happens that you are a winner and the mitts are totally the wrong color for your kitchen, you can let me know when I contact you and I’ll make you a custom set in the color of your choice. If that happens, I’ll draw a fourth winner for the set that didn’t work for you.

Good luck, everyone!

    Hi Dawn!
I first want to say I truly enjoy your blog! And want to thank you lots+++ for your tutorial for making quilt labels. Thank you!
I rather enjoy cooking & the family likes that I do too, LOL. We like casseroles & one of my favourites is a cabbage roll casserole. This is much easier than putzing around making the actual “roll”.
Thank you for a chance at the give-away. I would be thrilled to own a pair!
    Stay well, stay safe!

  2. Amy M says:

My favourite kind of food, if I’m being honest, is desserts. I love it all, cakes, cupcakes, cookies but especially cheesecake! Thanks for the great giveaway!

  3. I love homemade apple pie, and homemade Mac n cheese, or maybe I’m just craving those comfort foods right now cos it’s winter! I’d say cheese tops the list for me, otherwise. And a good steak. How do you pick a favorite???

  4. Rebecca Robinson says:

Hi Dawn, what a fun idea! I’m glad I stumbled across your Instagram today.
Since we are currently living by a fishing harbor, my latest favorite food is… well, any freshly caught seafood! But I’m particularly fond of haddock. I don’t think you can buy it in Portland. It’s very common here! It has way more flavor than cod even though it is also a white fish. Of course there are many ways to cook it and it is complimented well with a side of scallops or shrimp. Of course then there is lobster which is hard to compete with but a bit too rich to eat several times a week! It’s more stressful to cook too.
Thanks for the chance to shout out about favorite foods!

  5. Tamara King says:

These are very nice and I am definitely going to check out your pattern – I really like the wide-ish binding. My favorite food is peaches and pineapples and Oregon strawberries, so fruit, all the fruit. My favorite oven food is fruit pie. I really like sugar :-O

    • Tamara King says:

ps I would happily subscribe to your blog if I could figure out how to do it :-/

      • Dawn says:

So glad you commented, Tamara. The link to subscribe to my blog dropped off the home page but has now been added back. Do try again!!

  6. Barbara S says:

I love pasta, chopped vegetable salad and cookies! And, your quilts and blog are amazing, I love the details and stories.

  7. Christine says:

My favourite food is butter tarts! Especially if the filling oozes just a little when you bite into it. Mmm. Very kind of you to give away your work. Thank you.

  8. Arrowhead Gramma says:

After a day of shoveling snow, my favorite food tonight was a bowl of homemade Vegetable Beef Soup. Otherwise, I will take Mexican cuisine any day of the week.

How gracious and kind of you to do this drawing. Thank you and as you know I totally enjoy your blog and Instagram posts.

  9. Kory Keller says:

Almost any dessert! Ice cream, cake, pie . . . I’m not picky.

Always on the look out for good oven mitts.

    Kory

  10. Michelle Freedman says:

What a fun giveaway! I’ve been making artisan bread and lately that is my favorite food. I’d love a new pair of oven mitts for this bread making adventure and made by you would be extra special! ❤️

  11. Linda Dyer says:

Of course my favorite food is PASTA. It’s also my downfall!!
P.S. I still have some of that cherry fabric too! I love it and I’m waiting to figure out what to make!!

  12. Bethany says:

Favorite kind of food… such a difficult question!! I really love sashimi, pho, anything from Andina, or parmesan fries from The Observatory.
I don’t have to choose just one to be in the drawing, right?!

  13. TheGranChris says:

Wild rice with brown rice and beans. Of course lots of celery, onions, peppers and garlic.

  14. Marge Nix says:

You can’t beat homemade vegetable beef soup on a really chilly day. Yum the best.

  15. Diane Stoffel says:

As a family member in possession of a pair of Dawn’s mitts, I can attest that the fit is SO much better than the huge ones sold in stores today. And, they are so darn cute, I found a way to keep them on display in my kitchen without hanging them up. My favorite kind of food must be homemade soups, which are also my favorite to make. At the moment, Ina Garten’s zucchini basil soup is tops and the real secret is using homemade chicken stock. Good luck everyone!

  16. TJ says:

I enjoy your blog, and a chance to win oven mitts made by you just put it over the top! My favorite food is pasta! So comforting, but so full of carbs, you didn’t say it had to be a healthy food 🙂
Thanks for the chance to win!

  17. Char says:

Pick me, pick me! I would love them!
My favorite food is anything someone else prepared!
Truthfully, lately I have been cooking for myself. I’ve actually signed up for Home Chef and receive two meals for two each week. (That’s 4 for me.) I’ve had some tasty creations and have even discovered a new tolerance for cooking.

Having said that…Mac & Cheese when the g-sons are here is always a favorite.
    Charlotte

    • Venita Davis says:

      Hi Dawn!
Thai is my favorite cuisine; tonight we had takeout, the drunken noodles with beef was so flavorful!

Thank you for upcoming tutorial; winning a pair you crafted would be such fun!

      Take care,
      Venita

  18. Elizabeth says:

Avocados! I like them in and on anything and all by themselves! Easy lunch or snack – half an avocado, a sprinkle of salt and a spoon!

  19. Margaret says:

I enjoy reading your blog and really appreciated the work you did with face masks. (I hope I have made all of them I ever have to make, tho). My favorite food is chocolate cake, but my very young grandson told me that’s not food, so I guess I’ll have to tell you another option. I really, really like street tacos. Yum!

  20. Nancy Stanley says:

My favorite food – King Salmon

What a sweet give away! Thanks Dawn

  21. Ellen C Doody says:

Your oven mitts are too cute to actually be used around messy cooking. They deserve to be kitchen decoration rather than functional tools – just sayin’. As for the food, I never met a carb I didn’t like, but I esp. love authentic Chinese dishes. I just realized how much I miss dining out during this year of Covid lockdown, Boo-hoo!

  22. Clara says:

Thank you, Dawn. I look forward to the tutorial. My granddaughter loves purple and it’s not a common kitchen color so I thought your oven mitt would look great in purple. It would be terrific if my name was pulled as a winner of your mitts.

  23. Claire says:

My favorite food is whatever I happen to be cooking. Most recently a cranberry relish flavored with cardamon and ginger.

  24. Pam Bowersox says:

    Hello Dawn,
Although I miss seeing you at Montavilla and the guild meetings I’m inspired by your posts on Instagram.
I’d like to be entered in the drawing for the adorable oven mitts. Even if I’m not a winner I’ll have fun making them for family from your tutorial. Thank you for your generosity in sharing your knowledge with others. I definitely appreciate seeing your projects that brighten our days.
    Pam

  25. Dianne McD. says:

Today, my favorite food is a Lentil Sausage Soup that I made over the weekend in my Instant Pot and served with homemade buttermilk biscuits. There was enough leftover for another meal. I can’t wait for dinnertime tonight!

  26. Nadine says:

My favorite right now is a big old bowl of homemade CHILI with CORNBREAD and salad greens.

  27. Suzette Shoulders says:

I feel blown away by this question! Nobody has ever asked me this before, and I have never thought about it, even! I absolutely love salads, and I could live on nothing but salads, if I had to! Green salads, fruit salads, potato salads, hot new potatoes and bacon with Stilton cheese sauce over top, served over mixed greens ( that was in England!!) ; I love them all! Suzette in Bend, where the snow is coming down pretty well!

  28. Naomi Macioce says:

Looks like these mitts would brighten any kitchen. I love Asian food: Thai, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and Indian. Periodically I go through cravings of Hot and Sour Soup. Haven’t made it myself yet, but soon since my favorite little Chinese restaurant has closed- Alas.
    Naomi

  29. Jan Shipman says:

Hello Dawn! It was so good to visit with you this evening on the guild Zoom meeting! Right now my favorite food is Chicken Tortilla Soup, a recipe Jean Kelly shared with me several years ago, and a brownie for dessert. I could definitely use some new oven mitts and would love to win any of the ones you have made!

  30. Kristi Castanette says:

My favorite food is pasta – any kind from typical Italian spaghetti to Vietnamese Pho to Asian ramen. If there is a noodle in the dish, I’m all in!

I’m going to sign up for your blog posts. Maybe I will start receiving them again. 🙂

  31. Jessica L Cutright says:

Aside from dark chocolate, my favorite entrees all feature shrimp; scampi. butterfly, alfredo; then if I can’t have shrimp, pork chops of any kind will do.

  32. Sara says:

Hi Dawn, I’m newly subscribed to your blog. My favorite cuisine in Mexican and favorite food is called Tiritas. It’s kind of a fish (generally Mahi-mahi) ceviche. I’m looking forward to your posts.

  38. Vickie Rooks says:

Love any food that I can make in the slow cooker. Your mitts are terrific!

My calendar dates and your dates in this blog entry are not matching. I think Friday is January 29 and February starts on Monday but what do I know.
